High school seniors at 21 Idaho schools are participating in a pilot program designed to encourage them to apply for college.
The Idaho State Board of Education’s College Application Week runs through Nov. 15 and offers students a chance to work with site coordinators at the 21 schools who will help them fill out an application.
“The application process can be daunting, especially for students who are the first in their families to attend college,” Dana Kelly, Student Affairs Program Manager for the State Board of Education, said in a news release. “College Application Week is designed to provide the support and guidance they need.”
State Board of Education officials said they plan to turn the pilot program into a statewide effort next year. Even though only 21 schools are participating this year, officials posted materials and information online that can be used by any student.

INL STEM grants available
Idaho teachers working in science, technology, engineering and math can now apply for two different grants offered by Idaho National Laboratory and the U.S. Department of Energy.
The grants include a $10,000 “classroom makeover grant” that will help teachers transform their rooms with 21st Century technology.
Teachers may also apply for a $1,000 mini-grant to help them enhance the teaching of math, science or technology.
Although teachers may apply for both grants, they are only eligible to win one award per year.
The deadline to apply is Dec. 31 and information is available online.
