Senate Education Committee member Cherie Buckner-Webb was hospitalized last week with symptoms of a mild stroke, but she expects to be at work when the 2014 session begins on Jan. 6.
Buckner-Webb, D-Boise, was hospitalized on Nov. 17 after her son, Phillip Thompson, recognized the stroke symptoms during a FaceTime chat on their iPhones. Thompson rushed to Buckner-Webb’s home and took her to the hospital.
“She’s doing quite well,” Thompson told Betsy Russell of the Spokane Spokesman-Review. “We had her to the hospital in no time flat. They kept her a few days. … She’s speaking much better now. Her strength’s pretty good. She’s just working through it now. Everybody expects a full recovery.”
“I will be standing tall as the legislative session begins,” Buckner-Webb told Russell.
Buckner-Webb is the second Senate Education Committee member to be hospitalized in the past few days. Coeur d’Alene Republican Bob Nonini is recovering from complications from the flu; he also expects to be at the Statehouse for the start of the session.
