State Board encourages students to apply for scholarships
Officials with the Idaho State Board of Education are encouraging high school students to apply for four scholarships that have deadlines in early 2014.
Students have until Feb. 15 to apply for the GEAR UP Idaho Scholarship, the Governor’s Cup Scholarship and the Tschudy Family Scholarship. Meanwhile, the deadline for the Idaho Opportunity Scholarship is March 1.
“High school students, especially seniors, should be planning ahead and preparing for college,” Jessica Piper, Scholarship Program Manager for the Idaho State Board of Education said in a news release. “Knowing what financial resources are available and applying for scholarship opportunities is an important part of that process.”
Students and parents are able to view application criteria and apply for each of the scholarships online through the State Board of Education.
$20,000 in wellness grants offered
Officials from Idaho school districts, public charter schools and private schools can now apply for their share of a $20,000 Team Nutrition Grant.
The funding is provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the state plans to award 20 grants of up to $1,000 to Idaho schools for wellness programs.
Wellness programs may address nutrition, health and physical activity throughout the day.
The only requirements are that schools must participate in the USDA’s National School Lunch Program and applications are due to the state by Jan. 7.
