The Idaho Public Charter School Commission has approved an online high school for Idaho students seeking technical or trade skills.
The Idaho College and Career Readiness Academy (IDCCRA) is designed to offer students four years of occupational training in an industry strand of their choice. The school’s intent is to teach occupational skills while providing a pathway to a job or to a technical college program. The initial study programs will include business administration, manufacturing, web development and health care.
The school is governed by a nonprofit board of directors of industry professionals with backgrounds in machining, electrical engineering, technical education and small business administration. Board president Kerry Wysocki is the general manager of Northwest Machining Inc., a Meridian precision machine shop.
“This represents a truly exciting educational opportunity for students and families in Idaho,” Wysocki said in a news release. “Our focus is to remove barriers to technical education so that more students stay in school to pursue a hopeful future.”
IDCCRA will partner with K12 Inc., a national provider of online curricula and services. IDCCRA also plans to seek out partnerships with local businesses, postsecondary schools and other community organizations, according to its news release.
