Gun report prompts school lockdowns in Middleton

Eighteen Canyon County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to two Middleton schools Tuesday morning, when a second-grader reported seeing a classmate carrying a weapon onto a school bus.

Two schools were placed on lockdown. The weapon turned out to be a toy gun, found inside Middleton Heights Elementary School.

“These types of situations require an immediate and overwhelming law enforcement response,” Sheriff Kieran Donahue said in a statement released after the incident. “That just shows the urgency with which we handle these matters.”

The student was immediately suspended, the Idaho Statesman reported Tuesday afternoon.

Here’s more about the story from the Idaho Press-Tribune and KIVI TV.
