The Caldwell school board completed a do-over on its superintendent’s hire Monday — and stuck with its original pick.

During a 13-minute special meeting Monday night, trustees hired Shalene French, the Bonneville School District’s human resources director.

Shalene French, hired Monday as Caldwell school superintendent.

French was Caldwell’s choice on March 12; trustees offered her the job after nine hours of interviews in closed executive sessions.

But last week, in response to a complaint from Idaho Education News, trustees acknowledged a violation of state open meetings law. Trustees denied voting on French’s hire in closed session — a vote that would be illegal under state law. But trustees said their March 12 agenda should have been amended to reflect their plan to make a job offer.

Trustees did not discuss the open meetings violation during Monday’s meeting.
