Ybarra schedules post legislative tour

Beginning next week, state superintendent Sherri Ybarra and state education officials will depart on a statewide post-legislative tour.

The annual roadshow is designed to bring school administrators up to speed with the new laws and policy changes approved during the just-completed legislative session.

The tour begins April 12 in Twin Falls and runs through April 20 in Coeur d’Alene. The tour is designed for superintendents, business managers and other administrators from districts and charter schools.

For those who cannot attend, the April 18 event will be broadcast live online and archived via Idaho Public Television’s Idaho in Session program.

Here’s the itinerary:

  • April 12, College of Southern Idaho, Twin Falls.
  • April 13, Idaho State University, Pocatello.
  • April 14, Hampton Inn, Idaho Falls.
  • April 18, Red Lion Donwtowner, Boise.
  • April 19, Lewis-Clark State College, Lewiston.
  • April 20, North Idaho College, Coeur d’Alene.

In other State Department of Education news:

Nutrition grants. The state’s Child Nutrition Program is accepting applications for the fresh fruit and vegetables program benefiting elementary schools.

Elementary schools serving students in poverty are eligible to receive $50 to $75 per student to purchase fruit and vegetables for the school year.

In order to qualify, elementary schools must participate in the National School Lunch Program, and more than 50 percent of their students must be eligible for free or reduced-price lunch. Schools with the highest percentage of free and reduced price lunch eligibility will receive priority treatment.

Grant applications and full program requirements are available online.

The application deadline is April 29.
