The State Board of Education will meet — again — on Friday morning, to discuss its 2017 legislative agenda.
The board is taking a “mulligan,” in the words of State Board executive director Matt Freeman, and will hold what amounts to a do-over meeting.
“In an abundance of caution, and out of a desire to return the public discourse to the substantive matters under consideration, the board has decided to declare the action taken at that meeting void,” the board said in a news release Wednesday afternoon.
Board members held a Monday morning conference call to discuss 2017 legislation — but later acknowledged shortcomings in the meeting agenda and public notice.
The agenda offered no detail about the Monday’s meeting. Board members wound up discussing two significant topics: a crackdown on bad teacher evaluation data reports, and a revamping of the state’s dual credit program.
While the board said it posted notice of the meeting on Friday — thus complying with state open meetings law — reporters received email notice of the meeting shortly after 5 a.m. Monday, less than five hours before the meeting time.
Friday’s meeting will be held at 8:30 a.m. It will again be held via conference call, and anyone interested can listen in. Click here for the agenda and details on the conference call. Return to IdahoEdNews.org Friday afternoon for coverage of this meeting.
