Boise School District trustee and businessman A.J. Balukoff says he is considering another run for governor.
On Thursday, Balukoff told Kimberlee Kruesi of the Associated Press that he hopes to make a decision this fall.
Balukoff was the Democratic nominee in 2014, losing to Republican incumbent Butch Otter. Balukoff received 38.6 percent of the vote.
Balukoff spent more than $4 million in his 2014 run, with nearly $3.6 million coming out his own pocket.
With Otter retiring in 2018, the governor’s race is wide open — and so far, most of the attention has been focused on the Republican field. Lt. Gov. Brad Little has been in the race for nearly a year. Boise developer and doctor Tommy Ahlquist and 1st District Rep. Raul Labrador jumped in the race earlier in 2017.
Only one Democrat has filed paperwork for a run for governor: Troy Minton, a homeless man from Boise.
