Kuna School District offers free full-day kindergarten
Full-day kindergarten will be offered as an option for students enrolled in the Kuna School District starting with the 2018-2019 school year. With support from grant funds, Kuna School District has decided to offer free all-day, every-day kindergarten to all families in the district boundaries.
“We believe offering kindergarten will equip young students with the academic and social skills they need for future success in and out of the
classroom,” said Wendy Johnson, the superintendent of the Kuna School District.

Robots to invade Boise
The best high school robotics teams from six states, Canada and China will take over Taco Bell Arena March 30-31 for a high-stakes, high-tech battle.
Idaho will host the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition in Science and Technology) Robotics Regional Competition, bringing together 25 high school robot teams.
Teams that win the Idaho regional competition will move on to the FIRST national championship held April 18-21 in Houston and April 25-28 in Detroit. The Boise event is free for all spectators.

Students win scholastic art and writing awards
Eleven Idaho teens won a national award for creative writing skills. The Alliance for Young Artists and Writers announced its regional award recipients for the 2018 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. The 95th Scholastic Art and Writing Awards is the country’s longest-running recognition program for creative writing for students in grades 7–12. Only eight students nationwide receive the Gold Medal for the category of writing portfolio and receive a $10,000 scholarship.
Alexandra Swerdloff of Boise High School received the Gold Medal Award. She is the third Idaho writer to ever be honored with this award. She will be honored during a special awards ceremony at Carnegie Hall in New York City in June.

ISU accepting college transition applications for reduced tuition
Idaho State University is accepting applications for its summer college transition program for recent high school graduates.
The program, “Bengal Bridge,” allows students to earn up to 10 college credits for $585 instead of the regular tuition price of $3,583.
Bengal Bridge helps incoming freshmen get a “solid start” on college and earn credits sooner, said program coordinator Misty Print. Students can live on campus in either the Rendezvous Complex or South Complex.
Enrollees must be a high school senior or recent graduate and apply before April 15.
“Bridge was the support I needed,” said previous Bengal Bridge student Stephanie Vera. “I knew my professors and classmates were there to encourage me to keep going no matter my challenge.”
The program also hosts activities throughout the summer, from water balloon fights to sports, Prigent said.
