College-savings program reminds parents to deduct contributions

IDeal, Idaho’s state-sponsored college-savings program, is reminding parents to take advantage of their 2017 state tax deductions for contributions to their college savings accounts.

“We have found that not all Idahoans are taking their state tax deduction for contributions,” said IDeal executive director Christine Stoll.

Click here for a checklist of what to do to get the deduction. Idaho families don’t have to be IDeal account owners to qualify for the deduction or itemize their taxes, Stoll said.

Full tax refunds can also be deposited into IDeal college savings accounts, Stoll said.

Bonneville seeks bank or credit union to operate in new high school

The Bonneville School District is searching for a bank or credit union to operate in its nearly complete Thunder Ridge High School.

The district posted a request for proposals from licensed firms to lease pre-built space in the high school in order to provide “educational opportunities, financial and job experiences, (and) services typically provided by a bank or credit union to both students and the general public.”

The partnership would be the first of its kind in East Idaho, but not in the state. Idaho Central Union has a branch inside Mountain View High School in Meridian that serves students and staffers.

Interested parties can submit to the district’s office at 3497 North Ammon Road. The Bonneville School Board will rank the candidate’s qualifications and could schedule a round of interviews, if needed, according to the request.

Trustees are slated to make a decision at a May 9 board meeting. The deadline for partnership proposals is April 13.
