Estey appears to have fundraising edge in Boise trustee election

(UPDATED, Sept. 4, with current filing information.)

After lining up several big-name endorsements, Alicia Shier Estey appears to have a fundraising edge in next week’s Boise School Board race.

Estey has raised $2,375, according to financial disclosure reports filed with the Ada County clerk’s office. And the contributions track with her endorsements: the Boise State University administrator has received support from state Sen. Janie Ward-Engelking and state Rep. Melissa Wintrow, both D-Boise; retiring Boise school trustee A J Balukoff; current trustee Beth Oppenheimer; and Boise City Council member Holli Woodings.

Still, the race is a decidedly low-key affair. Former legislator Branden Durst reported $324.95 in contributions, including a $74.95 personal loan to his campaign. Shari Fernandez reported $106 in-kind contributions. Incumbents Maria Greeley and Troy Rohn reported no fundraising activity, although Rohn reported spending $373.

A report for Jim Tooman remained unavailable Tuesday morning on the county’s website. Tooman and Durst both missed the Aug. 28 filing deadline, Guillermo Velasco of the Ada County clerk’s office said in an email Wednesday. However, Durst’s report has been filed and is posted online.

The six candidates will square off Tuesday — in the only election on the ballot in Idaho. The three top-vote getters will be elected to six-year, unpaid terms on the board.
