Two additional school districts will collect emergency property tax levies designed to cover the costs of enrollment increases.
The Post Falls School District will collect $615,000 and the American Falls School District will collect $200,000.
For American Falls, it’s the first time district officials have imposed an emergency levy in at least a decade.
This brings the statewide emergency levy bill to more than $12.7 million, the highest total since at least 2009-10. Fourteen districts will collect emergency levies.
Unlike bond issues and supplemental school levies, emergency levies do not require voter approval. When district student counts increase from the previous school year, trustees can unilaterally decide to collect a levy.
