State Sen. Cherie Buckner-Webb will not seek re-election this year, continuing a bipartisan exodus of Senate veterans.

Buckner-Webb, D-Boise, has served in the Legislature for decade, including eight years in the Senate. She is the Senate’s assistant minority leader and she sits on the Senate Education Committee.

“I encourage legislators to move beyond politics, to value inclusivity, and to welcome all voices as we — the public and private sectors — work together to create the best future possible for generations to come,” Buckner-Webb said in a statement Monday. “It has been a privilege to be part of the public sector and I look forward to continuing that work in the private sector.”

Buckner-Webb is the fifth Senate incumbent to announce her retirement plans, joining Senate President Pro Tem Brent Hill, R-Rexburg; Senate Education Chairman Dean Mortimer, R-Idaho Falls; Senate Transportation Committee Chairman Bert Brackett, R-Rogerson; and Minority Caucus Chair Maryanne Jordan, D-Boise.

All 105 legislative seats are on the ballot this year.
