Update: Treasure Valley Classical Academy no longer plans to open.

Elevate Academy, a Caldwell-based public charter school, plans to reopen with a staggered class schedule on June 1, after the school’s board approved the plan Monday night.

Elevate operates on a year-round schedule. Administrator Monica White says a June opening would allow kids to get back to the hands-on career-technical learning environment at Elevate, and help prepare the school for next year.

“There’s going to be a lot of educating of students and staff of the new normal: New protocols and those kinds of things,” White said. “The sooner we can make those things the new normal, the better start we’ll have in the fall.”

The school plans to reopen with a split A-B schedule, which would allow for up to half of the students in the school each day. Students and teachers who don’t feel comfortable returning to school can continue to work from home. Students will need to fill out a health-screening questionnaire before returning to school, and the school will continue to do screenings, including temperature checks. Kids with a temperature higher than 100-degrees will be sent home. Schools will be sanitized multiple times a day, buses sanitized after each route, desks spread for 6-feet of distance between students and social distancing enforced in the hallways and lunch spaces.

Local health authority Southwest District Health has signed off on the plan, according to a letter of approval provided  by White.

The June 1 reopening date is planned to coincide with the next phase of Gov. Brad Little’s plan for reopening the state.  At that point, Idahoans would be allowed to congregate in groups of 10-50 —  though White says that Elevate’s plan would still limit group interactions to 10 or fewer.

The school will have  another board meeting in advance of the planned reopening, and continue to check in with Southwest District Health to make sure it is safe to reopen, White said.

“We’ll keep crossing t’s and dotting i’s until that point,” she said.

Treasure Valley  Classical Academy: Had initially planned to reopen on May 18, but changed course on Wednesday night, The Argus Observer reported. Principal Stephen Lambert said the school could not comply with Gov. Brad Little’s mandate to restrict group sizes to fewer than 10 — a restriction  that is scheduled to last until June  12.
