For the second successive week, Idaho reported a record number of new coronavirus cases.
As of Friday afternoon, the state and its seven health districts reported 7,031 confirmed or probable coronavirus cases. That translates to a one-week increase of 35 percent.
Last week, case numbers increased by 34 percent.
Twice this week — including Friday — the state Department of Health and Welfare reported a peak single-day increase in new, confirmed cases. And in another sign of a widespread spike in infections, three large counties also reported a one-week high in new cases this week: Ada, Canyon and Kootenai.
Meanwhile, Health and Welfare on Thursday said it had miscalculated the numbers on Idahoans who have recovered from coronavirus. In one day, the state reduced this figure by more than 1,500.
The uptick in cases comes as several cities, including Boise, are requiring people to wear masks in public, and as a gubernatorial committee continues to work on guidelines for reopening school in the fall. A draft of those guidelines could come as early as Monday.
