Idaho’s largest private college grew enrollment by about 7 percent this fall.

Brigham Young University-Idaho Friday announced campus-based fall enrollment of 26,963, up from 25,176 a year ago.

About 18,000 of these students are living on or near the Rexburg campus for the fall semester, BYU-Idaho said Friday. The fall enrollment figure includes students who are enrolled in face-to-face, hybrid and online courses, as well as students in internships.

BYU-Idaho also reported a 25 percent increase in online student enrollment. Online enrollment totaled 17,523, up from 13,974 a year ago.

BYU-Idaho’s announcement means the state’s three largest private colleges grew enrollment despite the coronavirus pandemic: The College of Idaho and Northwest Nazarene University announced their numbers in September.

Enrollment numbers for Idaho’s four-year institutions were mixed. This week, Boise State University, the University of Idaho and Idaho State University announced overall enrollment decreases, caused largely by a drop in the number of high school students taking dual-credit college courses. Lewis-Clark State College announced an overall increase, linked to a surge in dual-credit enrollment.
