The College of Western Idaho has a new president, for now, and a new trustee.

Here are the changes, from Thursday’s trustees’ meeting:

New interim president. Provost Denise Aberle-Cannata will take the lead role while the college continues a search for a permanent president.

“CWI is a special place and I know that all of us are committed to continuing to support our students, our faculty and staff and our communities as we work towards welcoming a new president in the future,” Aberle-Cannata said in a news release.

“Aberle-Cannata has experience in several roles and settings which has provided her with a valuable understanding of higher education ranging from operations to instruction,” said Molly Lenty, chair of CWI’s board of trustees. “She is an extremely capable leader with deep institutional credibility that will serve CWI and our students well.”

CWI is looking to replace Bert Glandon, who served as the college’s president since 2009. His retirement went into effect over the weekend.

New board member. Trustees voted unanimously to add local bank executive Jim Reames to the CWI board.

Reames is market president for First Federal Savings and Loan, and he serves on boards for the Nampa Saint Alphonsus Foundation and Nampa Boys and Girls Club.

“His history of service to the community and his financial background and expertise will be a tremendous asset for the college as we continue to thrive and empower students,” Lenty said.

Reames will represent CWI’s trustee Zone 3, which takes in Nampa, Kuna and portions of Meridian. He succeeds April Baylon-Mendoza, who resigned abruptly in March, four months after her election.
