Updated on Monday, Nov. 1 to include new information from the Payette County Prosecutors office and a correction from the Payette County Sheriff. There are five 17-year-old suspects, not four.
The Payette County Sheriff’s Office has completed its investigation into an alleged hazing incident with the Fruitland School District’s football team.
The suspects — three 18-year-olds, five 17-year-olds and a 16-year-old — have not yet been formally charged, Sheriff Andy Creech told Ednews Thursday. Payette County Prosecutor Mike Duke said in an email that he does anticipate filing charges, but he has not decided which charges to file.
“I will defer to the Payette County Prosecuting Attorney to release the suspects’ names when it is appropriate,” Creech said.
The sheriff’s office has been investigating the alleged hazing incident, which includes a complaint that a player was shocked by a dog collar.
Idaho EdNews will continue to follow the developments.
“The Payette County Sheriff’s Office is committed to working with the Fruitland School District and the Payette County Prosecutor to see that this incident is resolved in a way that discourages hazing in high school sports,” Creech said.
