New coronavirus case numbers have fallen to pre-delta and pre-omicron levels.

The state and its seven health districts reported 1,561 new cases last week, the lowest number since the week ending July 23.

All told, the state has reported 443,739 confirmed or probable coronavirus cases.

The dropoff in pediatric cases was similar.

Last week, the state counted 157 cases involving school-age children, the lowest weekly number since July.

Other metrics were encouraging as well.

Hospitalizations and ICU admissions dropped to numbers not seen in months.

For the week ending March 19, only 1.5% of coronavirus tests came back positive — the lowest rate the state has recorded during the pandemic.

However, 33 Idahoans died of COVID-19 last week, up from 15 the previous week. And with the report of a death in tiny Clark County, at least one person in every Idaho county has died of COVID-19 — 4,867 people in all.
