Coeur d’Alene trustees approve contract

Coeur d’Alene teachers and trustees have a contract agreement for 2022-23, which will provide pay raises of 3.25%.

The school board agreed on the contract Monday, the Coeur d’Alene Press reported.

This average pay raise falls below several other large districts. West Ada’s average raise will be 6.28%, Boise’s average wage will be 4.5%, Nampa’s base salary will increase by 3.75%, and Twin Falls will award raises and one-time stipends that could translate to 8% to 9% raises.

This year, the Legislature put a 10% infusion of state and federal dollars into the teacher salary schedule — although districts and charters negotiate their own teacher contracts. Given the Legislature’s actions, union members were initially “not very happy” with the 3.25% offer, Coeur d’Alene Education Association President Aaron Hayes told the Coeur d’Alene Press.

But Hayes said the district added several other features to the contract — such as funding a teacher leadership premiums program eliminated by the Legislature.

Coeur d’Alene teachers could also receive another 1% raise if voters approve a 10-year, $80 million plant facilities levy on Aug. 30. That levy would free up extra money for salaries, by covering building needs.
