Minidoka School District Superintendent Scott Rogers has stepped down to take a similar position in Utah. He plans to take over as the Tooele School District Superintendent in July.
“We may elect to go the interim route as opposed to hiring a superintendent right now. This is not the best time of the year, and we don’t think we’d get a great pool of candidates. The board is considering going a year with an interim superintendent, but that person hasn’t been identified as of yet,” board chair Brian Duncan told the Weekly News Journal.
The Minidoka School District has about 4,020 students. Rogers will oversee nearly 14,000 students in his new position.
Rogers led Minidoka for nine years and guided the district through building new elementary schools at Acequia and Heyburn, a multi-purpose building at Paul and continued development on the 20-acre athletic complex at Minico.
Six months ago, Rogers launched an iPad pilot program at Paul Elementary where every student has a personalized hand-held computing device. The technology was financed through a one-year grant from Park City-Utah based iSchool Campus. Minidoka does not have a plan for funding the program next year.
Minidoka has been forthright about its financial situation. “We do not have the general fund to sustain (this program), and that was known upfront,” Rogers told IdahoEdNews.org.
If the state does not fund Paul’s pilot, the project’s fate rests in iSchool’s hands. The company could extend its grant, or end the program and collect the equipment. Click here to read the complete story.
