A fourth opponent has canceled a women’s volleyball match with San José State University, in an another apparent protest over transgender athletes.
Utah State University said it will not play its scheduled Oct. 23 match with San José State, according to multiple broadcast reports Wednesday.
One of San José State’s players, Blaire Fleming, was identified as a transgender athlete in a recent federal lawsuit.
On Friday, Boise State University said it would forfeit its road match with San José State, scheduled for the following day. Southern Utah University and the University of Wyoming also have forfeited their matches.
The four universities have said little about their decisions.
