NIC’s interim president has a contract through June 2024

Acting president Greg South will be paid $235,000 annually to head the embattled community college. President Nick Swayne remains on paid administrative leave, receiving $230,000 per year. These combined salaries eclipse the presidents’ pay at any of Idaho’s four-year school.

“By statute, Idaho community colleges are governed by locally elected boards of trustees, not the State Board of Education,” the board said in a statement sent to Idaho Education News Wednesday. “(The State Board) does not have authority over general governance of the college.”

About those false fire alarms at NIC …

The first false alarm at Saturday’s board meeting was pulled deliberately, the Coeur d’Alene Press reported. The second false alarm was accidental, and occurred when a worker tried to reset the alarm.
