The Idaho Education Association is intervening in the contested school board elections in Gooding, the Twin Falls Times-News reported Friday.
The IEA and local union members met to coach three candidates, the Times-News’ Julie Wootton reported. The candidates — Denis Peron, Denise Childs and Randy Basterrechea — are three challengers in the crowded field. Seven candidates are vying for three seats in a district that has seen two superintendents resign since January 2014.
The IEA told Wootton it is neither endorsing nor providing financial support to candidates.
That’s consistent with what IEA President Penni Cyr told Idaho Education News last week. She said the union has been asked to advise in about a half dozen trustee races statewide, and that’s the extent of the state union’s involvement. The IEA declined to identify races where it is involved.
