West Ada trustees filled another vacancy Tuesday night, appointing Rene Ozuna to the school board.
Ozuna was selected from a field of four applicants who sought to replace Russell Joki on the board.
Ozuna is an analytics consultant with Wells Fargo Insurance, and she recently served on a citizens’ school boundaries committee.
Ozuna said she is opposed to the trustee recalls that have divided the state’s largest school district, according to a Tuesday story from our broadcast partners, KIVI and KNIN. Trustees Tina Dean and Carol Sayles face a May 17 recall election. Joki and Julie Madsen had faced a possible recall, but both have since resigned from the board.
Joki said he resigned for personal reasons, unrelated to the recall.
Tuesday’s vote was not unanimous, according to Meridian Press and Idaho Statesman reports. Trustee Mike Vuittonet preferred Brian Sporleder, a retired Idaho Department of Labor employee; the other three sitting trustees supported Ozuna.
Coming Thursday: How did things fall apart in West Ada? And where does West Ada go from here? I team up with Michelle Edmonds of KIVI and KNIN for an in-depth look.
