UPDATE, 12:11 p.m.:

The working group canceled its first meeting, scheduled for today. The meeting would have conflicted with a Monday afternoon House floor session.

The working group to review Idaho’s school funding formula has its first meeting scheduled for this afternoon.

The work group meeting is scheduled for 1 p.m. in room WW17 at the Statehouse. Anyone who wants to listen in can call in at (877) 820-7831, and use the access code 936601.

The official word on the meeting went out only this morning — and the meeting might not even take place. “The Work Group meeting will be rescheduled if it conflicts with the Idaho House or Senate daily session,” the State Board of Education said in a news release.

The House and Senate have begun scheduling weekday afternoon sessions, as the Legislature hopes to wrap up its work within the next two weeks. The Senate Education Committee also is scheduled to meet at 2 p.m. today.

The Public School Funding Formula Workgroup is expected to spend at least the next year reviewing the school funding formula, last rewritten in 1994.  The House and Senate has approved a legislative interim committee, which will report recommendations — and perhaps propose legislation — at the start of the 2017 session.
