Students at Nampa’s West Middle School were urged to wear purple to class today, to show support for a student who was reportedly bullied after he wore skinny jeans to school.

Nampa school officials say they haven’t received a formal complaint, but reports of the incident have made the rounds on social media. A teacher reportedly teased the student for wearing skinny jeans, prompting classmates to harass the student as well.

A Facebook page was launched after last week’s incident, calling for West Middle School officials to apologize to the student. As of Monday morning, the site had close to 1,400 likes.

Nampa school Superintendent David Peterson has launched an investigation into staff conduct — and allegations that the teacher was threatened over the incident.

“We take allegations of unprofessional conduct seriously,” Peterson said on the district’s Facebook page. “From very early on, we are hearing conflicting reports about what happened. We are gathering information so we can get a complete picture and take appropriate action if necessary. We are partnering with the police, and will be hiring an independent investigator.”
