State names new teacher certification head

State superintendent Sherri Ybarra has looked in-house for a new head of the state’s Professional Standards Commission.

Lisa Colon is the state’s new teacher certification/Professional Standards Commission director. Before the new assignment, announced Tuesday, Colon had been the State Department of Education’s educator effectiveness coordinator.

“I look forward to this new position and being able to support teachers and leaders in their practice,” Colon said in a news release. “We will continue moving forward in Idaho to ensure that we have high standards for school personnel, which will ultimately benefit kids across the state with highly effective instruction.”

Colon succeeds Taylor Raney, who will start work later this summer as an assistant professor and teacher education director at the University of Idaho.
