Two incumbent NIC trustees will not seek re-election

The election is two months away, but some significant turnover will take place at North Idaho College.

Two incumbent trustees will not seek re-election to the often-polarized five-member board, the Coeur d’Alene Press reported last week.

Board chair Mike Waggoner and vice chair Todd Banducci are stepping aside. Aligned with the Kootenai County Republican Central Committee, Banducci and Waggoner often sided with fellow trustee Greg McKenzie, forming a conservative bloc that frequently clashed with trustees Tarie Zimmerman and Brad Corkill.

Leslie Duncan, Mary Havercroft and Michael Angiletta have filed to run for Waggoner’s Zone 5 seat, the Press reported. William Lyons and Rick Durbin are running for Banducci’s Zone 3 seat. Eve Knudtsen is challenging McKenzie in Zone 4.

Zimmerman and Corkill are midway through their terms, which run through 2026.
