Challis School District Superintendent Colby Gull has accepted a similar position in Wyoming. Gull’s last day in Challis is July 18.
Gull was named the superintendent of Uinta School District #6 in Lyman, Wyo.
The Challis School District in central Idaho near the Montana border earned a four-star rating at its high school on a scale of one to five.
Gull was an outspoken supporter of the repealed Students Come First laws, regularly testifying at legislative hearings.
The district has not yet announced the replacement process.
Idaho teacher organizes Twitter discussion platform
A new Twitter discussion — Idaho Edchat, or #IDedchat — will start at the end of the month. The goal is to connect educators from around the state.
Idaho Ed Chat hopes to provide a platform in which educators can learn from each other and communicate. For those unfamiliar with Twitter, #IDedchat hopes a comfortable learning ground, while providing a good chat addition for experienced users.

Janet Avery, the director of curriculum, instruction and professional development for the Jerome School District, is organizing #IDedchat. She hopes to hold the first chat next week.
Idaho Department of Juvenile Corrections Educator wins national award
Idaho teacher Joe Buckles earned the “Lighting the Fire” award from the Center for Educational Excellence in Alternative Settings (CEEAS), a national organization working with states to improve educational outcomes.
Buckles has been an instructor of social studies, math and speech at the Idaho Department of Juvenile Corrections Center (IDJC) in Nampa for the past 10 years. This national award provides recognition to instructors who have demonstrated success across a range of effective teaching practices and who have also provided outstanding leadership within the education communities they serve.
IDJC Director Sharon Harrigfeld said: “Mr. Buckles epitomizes the many staff who work relentlessly to advance the educational and behavioral progress of the juveniles committed to our care. His efforts to improve the lives of Idaho’s juveniles on a daily basis are to be congratulated.”
Idaho superintendents’ meeting to be held this month
Registration is still open for the 2013 annual superintendents meeting to be held July 29 at the Grove Hotel. The day-long event includes a panel discussion on implementing Idaho Core Standards, assessments, accountability and educator evaluations. The afternoon discussions includes technology updates on pilot projects, a Q&A with Superintendent Tom Luna and panels on differentiating pay and improving school safety and security.
