The Emmett School District’s board of trustees unanimously selected Craig Woods to serve as its next superintendent.
Woods is currently the superintendent and high school principal for the Notus School District. Prior to that, he taught high school English in Baker City, Ore. Woods is originally from Emmett.
On Thursday, trustees selected Woods over finalists Shane Erickson, a superintendent in Junction, Utah, and Ryan Hawkins, an administrator in Nyssa, Ore.
Emmett trustees held a “meet and greet” Thursday with the three finalists. Trustees then entered into executive session for about 40 minutes before returning to a public meeting where they thanked the community, the candidates and the Idaho School Boards Association for participating in the hiring process.
Trustees agreed Woods’ “personality and temperament” would be the best fit.
Long-time Emmett Superintendent Wayne Rush resigned in June. Trustees illegally entered into a separation agreement with Rush on June 5. About a month later, trustees acknowledged violating Idaho’s open meetings laws, corrected their actions and publicly re-approved the agreement that could net Rush more than $123,000.
