The Empowering Parents application season is starting soon.
The State Board of Education says it will begin taking applications for the microgrants in late October.
The state will again have $30 million available. Families can use the grants to offset a host of out-of-pocket education costs, for items such as laptops, internet access, therapy, and sports uniforms and fees.
Grants are capped at $1,000 per student or $3,000 per family.
The first round of grants will go to families with an Adjusted Gross Income of less than $60,000. The second round will include families with an AGI under $75,000. Any remaining money will go out on a first-come, first-served basis.
When the applications go live, families will be able to click on the Empowering Parents website to fill out the paperwork.
In the meantime, families with existing Empowering Parents balances can continue shopping through Odyssey, the state’s program contractor.
This marks the third year of the Empowering Parents program.
