The Twin Falls School District suspended Twin Falls High School football coach and teacher Ben Kohring after he used “inappropriate racial language” while teaching a class.

“The comments were made in the context of a lesson and not directed at or about any individual,” district public relations director Eva Craner said in a statement.

Craner declined to specify what Kohring said, or which racial or ethnic group the comment targeted, citing confidentiality in personnel matters.

The district learned of Kohring’s comment on Sept. 29, Craner said. Kohring, who teaches both P.E. and freshman foundations, complied with the district’s investigation and is suspended from teaching or coaching until Oct. 19. He will be required to apologize to his classes and his team, undergo sensitivity training, and the district will attach a letter of reprimand to his personnel file.

“The district does not condone these comments in any context and will continue to work with the educators to ensure that lessons are presented in a professional and inclusive manner,” Craner’s statement says.

Assistant football coach Adam Reynolds is filling in for Kohring in the interim. Twin Falls is scheduled to play Mountain Home Friday.
