Trying again: Bonneville plans another building bond

It’s time for Round 3 in the Bonneville School District.

The Eastern Idaho district will seek a $66 million bond issue to build a new high school, KIFI Local News 8 reported Thursday. Voters in the fast-growing district rejected bond issues in March and May; the most recent effort fell 17 votes shy of the needed two-thirds supermajority.

The price tag has gone up since May, when a $56.1 million proposal was on the table. But because property values are increasing, district officials believe they can add a football stadium and auditorium to the package while bringing down the impact on taxpayers.

”I’m hoping the community will see now is the time to build, it will never be cheaper, take advantage of this market value growth and get more in a high school for less money than it ran in May, so we’re hoping that the community will see that,” district Superintendent Charles Shackett said, according to KIFI’s report on Wednesday’s school board meeting.
